Research Interests
After six years of practicing oil and gas law, I needed a change. I wanted joyful, purposeful work. That is what I have found in education: Overwhelming, slogging, frustrating work, even Sisyphean work at times. But it is always purposeful, and mostly joyful.
I left the law to teach history and computer science at a large public high school in Madison, Alabama, where I spent three years connecting curriculum with students’ lives and interests.
Now, I am a first-year PhD student in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin. Prior to my doctoral studies, I earned a Master’s degree in History from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, as well as a BA in History and a JD from the University of Alabama.

Research Interests
My research interests center the role of curriculum and teacher education in democratic participation and social justice. I am particularly interested in critical approaches to civics education that prepare students to engage with concepts of equity, power, and citizenship. In addition, I explore the intersections of civics and STEM education, including how digital citizenship and literacies shape our capacity to participate in democracy.
